Argyle vs Flower Mound: Which DFW Community is Right for You?

As a realtor who works extensively in both Argyle and Flower Mound, I get this question almost daily: "Which area is better?" The truth is, both communities are fantastic - they just offer different lifestyles. Let's break down what makes each special so you can decide which might be your perfect fit.

Lifestyle and Atmosphere

Argyle

Picture yourself driving down FM 407, passing grazing horses and mature oak trees. That's Argyle's signature blend of rural charm and upscale living. Here you'll find:

  • Larger lots (many homes sit on 1+ acres)
  • More new construction options in master-planned communities
  • A distinctly small-town feel despite rapid growth
  • Strong agricultural roots (yes, you can actually have horses at many homes!)

Flower Mound

Flower Mound offers a more established suburban feel with:

  • More shopping and dining options (especially along FM 2499)
  • Well-maintained older neighborhoods with mature trees
  • The convenience of Lakeside DFW
  • Beautiful parks and trails system

Schools: Two Excellence-Driven Districts

Argyle ISD

  • Consistently rated among the top districts in Texas
  • Smaller student population means more opportunities to participate
  • Brand new facilities like Argyle South and Jane Ruestmann Elementaries & the brand new under-construction stadium at Argyle High School
  • Strong focus on both academics and athletics
  • State championships in multiple sports and activities

Flower Mound (Lewisville ISD)

  • Larger district with more program options
  • Highly-rated schools, especially Flower Mound High School
  • Strong fine arts programs
  • Multiple International Baccalaureate programs
  • Excellent special education services

Shopping and Dining

Argyle

While more limited, Argyle's options are growing:

  • Earl's 377 Pizza (a local institution!)
  • Marty B's (try the brisket and enjoy live music)
  • Kimzey's Coffee (housed in a charming vintage gas station)
  • Cactus Canyon (brand new Tex-Mex)
  • Little Joe's Farmstead (amazing local breakfast, lunch and dinner options and arguably best coffee in town)
  • Just minutes from Northlake Commons and Roanoke (the Unique Dining Capital of Texas)

Flower Mound

More established retail and dining scene:

  • The Shops at Highland Village
  • Lakeside DFW (great waterfront dining)
  • Parker Square (local boutiques and restaurants)
  • Restaurant options from casual to upscale
  • Multiple grocery options (including Whole Foods and Sprouts)

Outdoor Activities and Recreation

Argyle

  • Unity Park (great for family events)
  • Canyon Falls trail system
  • Multiple equestrian facilities
  • Harvest's open playing fields
  • Easy access to Lake Ray Roberts

Flower Mound

  • Lake Grapevine access
  • Northshore Trail (a mountain biking destination)
  • The Flower Mound (yes, there's an actual flower-covered mound!)
  • Twin Coves Park
  • Extensive hiking and biking trails

Home Styles and Prices

Argyle

  • Newer construction dominates
  • Many custom home options
  • Larger lots available
  • Strong presence of luxury homes
  • Growing number of townhome options in new developments

Flower Mound

  • Mix of established and new neighborhoods
  • More varied price points
  • Smaller lots but often with mature landscaping
  • Many homes from the 1990s and early 2000s
  • Luxury options, especially near Lakeside

Commute Considerations

From Argyle

Which Is Right for You?

Consider Argyle if you:

  • Want more land and space between neighbors
  • Prefer new construction

  • Are looking for a strong sense of community
  • Don't mind driving a bit further for shopping

Consider Flower Mound if you:
